What is Nail Fungus
This fungal infection also called onychomycosis can effect one or more of your fingernails or toenails. Nail fungus infection can begin as a white spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges.
Nail Fungus might recur and without treatment might become difficult to remedy. Over the counter medications can prove effective at treating the symptoms and clear up the nail fungus in most cases.
There are different categories of nail fungus depending on type of fungus and appearance which may have somewhat different signs and symptoms.
- Thicker than usual
- Crumbly or ragged edges
- Distorted in shape
- A dark color
Nails with a fungal infection might separate from the nail bed, express some aches and pain or emit a foul odor.
