Double-Chin Eliminator: Kybella
Posted on Thursday May 28, 2015
The FDA has recently approved a new injectable called Kybella that helps to dissolve unwanted neck fat. This new drug offers those with a double chin a way to get rid of it without having to undergo surgery. Kybella is identical to something your body naturally makes called deoxycholic acid, which helps to absorb and breakdown fats. Kybella works by destroying fat cells under the chin. The drug breaks down the cell’s membranes, causing them to burst. What remains of the fat cell is then absorbed back into the body via normal metabolic pathways. Kybella injections usually take about five minutes to administer with only two to three days to heal. No bandages are required in the healing process. Kybella will soon be offered at Kovak Dermatology & Laser Institute as Dr. Kovak is a faculty member of Kythera. For more information about Kybella, please call us today at (630) 758-0470.:
FDA approves DCA for Treatment of Unwanted Chin Fat
Posted on Friday March 13, 2015
An FDA Drug Advisory Panel has approved the use of deoxycholic acid injections (DCA) for the treatment of unwanted chin fat. DCA is a naturally occurring bile salt that emulsifies fat. When injected into unsightly fat under the chin, DCA destroys the unwanted fat cells. Treatments should be spaced 1 month apart until the desired cosmetic effect is achieved. Side effects include swelling and temporary numbness of the area. This is an exciting treatment for patients seeking improvement of their facial contour who don’t want to undergo liposuction. :
What is Psoriasis?
Posted on Tuesday November 04, 2014
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition that manifests as thick, scaly red plaques and has been associated with "metabolic syndrome," which is characterized by obesity, abnormal cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and diabetes or insulin resistance. A recent study published in JAMA Dermatology found that patients with psoriasis had a greater likelihood of suffering from uncontrolled hypertension, with high risks seen among patients with moderate to severe psoriasis that affected more than 3% of the surface of their bodies. It is important that dermatologists recognize these associations and counsel patients to get check-ups with their regular doctor. :
